Hello Vinci Park Families!
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones and are ready for what 2018 has to offer. We are back in full swing and excited for the latter half of our school year.
This is a long weekend for many celebrating the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr, on Monday. I hope you enjoyed the extra time with family and friends.
I realize that it’s a busy time for all as we approach the new year with new goals, resolutions and ways we could contribute to our community. Let’s remember that service to others is not limited to a monetary value. The most precious gift you can give to someone is your time. I encourage you this year to volunteer at Vinci Park Elementary to help achieve our mission of bettering the lives of our students.
Some ways you can volunteer your time are; helping with concession stands, participating in committees, attending PTA meetings, doing administrative work from home, or simply making copies of flyers. There are a lot more tasks to be filled but any little bit of assistance to the PTA goes a long way in making Vinci Park Elementary a better place for our kids.
I trust everyone had a terrific holiday and is looking forward to a wonderful, healthy new year! January is a great time to reflect on the areas in our live where we felt successful during the past year. It is also a time to consider how to make changes in areas where we would like to improve.
Here are some tips to help students start the New Year off on a positive note.
- Get plenty of sleep. Scientists have found that students who do not get enough sleep have difficulty paying attention in class and do not do as well in school. Recommended amounts of sleep range from about 8½ to 11 hours a night for elementary students.
- Eat healthy. Eat more fruits, nuts, and vegetables. Drink at least 8 (8 oz) glasses of water every day. Limit the amount of sodas and snack foods you eat.
- Exercise your body and your mind daily.
- Follow the Golden Rule – Treat others (children and adults) the way you would like to be treated.
- Time + Effort = Achievement –Take the time to carefully complete all assignments at school and home; ask questions when you do not understand a task; demonstrate perseverance (that means keep trying – even when the work is difficult), and eliminate the word “can’t” from your vocabulary. Make it a goal to do your personal best at school every day.
- Read, read, read – Success in school depends, in large part, on a student’s ability to read and understand what they have read. Students should read a variety of books, including folktales, poetry, biographies, fiction, and more. Read to get information, read for fun, read to someone in your family…just read!
- Attend school regularly and on time.
- Write out your Plan for Success. The plan may include getting better grades, making new friends, studying harder, staying out of trouble, etc.
- Share your Plan with someone who can help you to reach your goal.
Have a fantastic year!

Yearbook Update – This year we are working with a company called Lifetouch to make our yearbooks the best we’ve ever had! We are holding a Yearbook cover contest amongst the 5th graders and all the participants artwork will be featured in this year’s yearbook. The winner’s artwork will be on the cover! The yearbook is now available for purchase. To purchase the yearbook you can go to ybpay.lifetouch.com and enter Yearbook ID # 13435118 or search for our school. The cost is $18.00.
Spirit Wear Update – Our first wave of orders have been distributed. Another order will be placed on January 19th so please complete an order form and submit to PTA before then. The PTA is in the process of exploring an online vendor option to replace the current order form. This is in hopes of having a more efficient ordering process. More to come on that! In addition, PTA will continue to keep a stock of merchandise to sell at the school and at events.
Traffic Safety Committee – Traffic safety signs and vests have been purchased. Now we need volunteers to help direct traffic. Time will be from 7:55 am-8:10 am and you don’t have to volunteer every day. Sign up online here: https://vinciparkpta.com/volunteer/ or contact Barb at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Family Fun Night Committee – Our annual Family Fun Night will take place in May! The exact date is to be determined but we will announce that soon. For those who are new to Vinci Park, Family Fun Night is our biggest fundraising event of the year and historically this event has brought in the biggest crowds and the most funds for the PTA.
We are in the process of forming the committees who will oversee a specific function. Ex. Food Committee, Games Committee, Raffle Prizes Committee, Entertainment Committee, etc…
We need volunteers to head up our committees! If you are able to help out at all, please sign up online at https://vinciparkpta.com/volunteer/ or contact Dulce Valencia at email@example.com
We will be providing job descriptions for the type of positions we will need filled to make this event a success. This will be provided ASAP and we will link it on our website.
LET’S MAKE THIS THE BEST FAMILY FUN NIGHT YET!
PTA Meetings are held each month in the staff lounge at Vinci Park. We discuss upcoming events, provide a financial report and our Principal Parisa Nunez shares updates concerning our school and students. Light snacks and refreshments are provided.
Our next PTA Meeting will be held on February 8, 2018 at 7:15 am in the staff lounge.
If you would like to become a member, complete a form located at the sign-in desk outside the front office, attach your payment and submit it to your child’s teacher or front office staff.
