President’s Message

Hello Vinci Park Families,

What a wonderful year it has been! Barb's headshot photo

At the beginning of my term as President two years ago, I had one goal in mind which was to bring the community together through events and fundraisers while enriching the lives of our students. I am happy to say that we have not only achieved our goal, we exceeded it!

The turnout at our many community events, such as Pastries with Parents, Pasta Night and our Holiday Party, were amazing and it was a great opportunity to meet other parents and staff members at Vinci. Through successful fundraisers, we raised enough money to increase classroom funds, help fund field trips, educational workshops and assemblies and purchase much needed emergency supplies for our school.

I am extremely proud of the work that that PTA has done this year. Our PTA is comprised of busy working parents and yet somehow we managed to accomplish our goals. These women inspire me on a daily basis to be a better parent and member of our community.

As we prepare for the upcoming year, it gives me so much pleasure to announce that our new PTA President for the 2019-2020 school year is Marygrace Tobias. Marygrace has been an integral part of the success of the PTA for the last two years serving as our Treasurer and I am excited for her leadership and ideas. Working alongside her will be: Laura Torrez – Treasurer, Jennifer Johnson – Secretary, Michelle Dickinson Moises – Historian and myself as Auditor.

The board is always looking for new members and there are many positions available so please consider joining our board next year. You can view the different positions here.

I want to thank the parents, students and staff at Vinci Park Elementary for your support, encouragement, and appreciation for the work the PTA has done. Through collaborative effort and teamwork, we were able to accomplish so much to enrich the lives of our students and bring the community together.

It has been an honor and privilege serving as your PTA President for the last two years and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Have a great summer!

Warm Regards,
Barb Dionicio
PTA President

Principal’s Message

Dear Vinci Park Families,

Successful Year for Vinci Park
What an interesting year we have had! I am continually impressed by the flexibility, support, and enthusiasm of the Vinci Park School community. I would like to thank the students, staff and parents for your hard work and collaboration this year. We are fortunate to have so many fine programs and resources for students, as we enrich our wonderful classrooms with art, music, science, technology, afterschool programs, computer classes and multicultural events. Our school culture was especially enhanced by the many events organized by our PTA and staff. Our school would not be successful without you.

Parents and community members volunteer in classes, drive on field trips, serve on the PTA, participate in School Site Council, and give input on district committees. Vinci Park School thrives because of our PTA. Thank you, to the fantastic PTA board and members, for guiding our wonderful membership toward continued success of our Vinci Park community. The fundraisers, family fun nights, and school activities have been fun, well-organized, meaningful and profitable. Because of parent and staff input and the response of the PTA, we have been able to provide field trips, art and classroom materials, and new equipment to our school this year. We encourage more parents to get involved next year so we can all work together in the future. Thank you, volunteers. Have a great summer, looking forward to a wonderful 2019-2020 school year!

Thank you,
Parisa Nunez
Principal

Box Tops For Education
In the Winter, our Explorers submitted 1,142 Box Tops back in February, generating $114.20 for Vinci Park. Remember to keep collecting Box Tops year round. We conduct collections twice per school year.

What are Box Tops? The Box Tops For Education program allows you to earn cash for Vinci Park by clipping the Official Box Tops for Education “Box Tops” from the packages of hundreds of purchased participating products. A list of participating products may be accessed at www.boxtops4education.com/earn/participating-products.

Box Tops for Education recently announced it will be switching to a digital program. Instead of clipping Box Tops, supporters will be asked to download the Box Tops app and scan and submit receipts showing their eligible purchases.

Over the summer you’ll see some participating brands begin to change their packaging from a physical Box Tops clip to the new Box Tops icon. With thousands of products and hundreds of brands, this will take some time, but eventually the Box Tops program will become digital-only.

Box Top for Education will continue to honor all physical clips until they reach their expiration dates, so keep clipping and sending them to your school!

At its core, the program structure and purpose remain the same – to help schools get what they need.  The main difference is how you’ll earn – instead of clipping, all Box Tops will be earned digitally via receipt scan.

You’ll now download the new and improved, user-friendly Box Tops app, register and select a school, and then scan an eligible receipt containing Box Tops products. You’ll earn 10 cents for each Box Tops product purchased plus extra earnings for any Bonus Box Tops opportunities.  The app will automatically add Box Tops to your school’s earnings online, giving visibility to see how you are supporting your school in real-time.

When the new and improved version of the Box Tops app launches in June, be sure to download the app and start scanning your receipts to earn!

5th Annual Community Heroes Recognition Event Honors Barb Dionicio
On Thursday, May 2, 2019, our very own PTA President, Barb Dionicio, was honored with a Community Heroes Award at a ceremony hosted by assemblymember Kansen Chu. The event was held at the Indian Community Center in Milpitas with more than 500 people in attendance. Honorees were recognized because they dedicated their time and efforts to making California’s 25th Assembly District (Fremont, Newark, Milpitas, San Jose, and Santa Clara) a better place to live, work and play.

Reminders
Please let’s be courteous to our neighbors and refrain from parking in “driveways” along the street surrounding the school. We have reports that some cars are driving in one driveway and making a U-Turn out of the next driveway. Driveways are private property and are not to be used. Also, for the safety of our families, please do not park or block the marked crosswalks on the street. When a crosswalk is blocked, families are forced to walk around the car and into potentially dangerous pathways of oncoming traffic. Remember, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing the street. Let’s all be cautious and make a joint effort to keep our kids safe on their way to/from school.

Family Fun Night: May 17, 2019
Our Family Fun Night was very successful. Thank you to our families who donated an item to their class basket. Thank you to all of our volunteers for running all of our booths and for spending your Friday evening wit us. Thank you to our volunteer teachers for coordinating the raffle tickets and prizes. And, thank you to all of our festival attendees to bringing our Vinci Park community together. Following are a few snapshots for you to enjoy.

President’s Message

Hello Vinci Park Families,

Barb's headshot photoSpring is in the air!

The weather is warming up and the days are longer, which is a reminder that the end of school is just around the corner. I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone by!

This also means that our end of school Family Fun Night is fast approaching. It is scheduled for May 17th from 5-8pm and we need your help! Please sign up to volunteer for this fun event. We will have lots of games, entertainment, arts and crafts, food and much more! But we won’t be able to do it without the help of volunteers. Any little bit of your time helps!

The end of the year also means that it’s elections time. We will be holding our election for the PTA Executive Board for our 2019-2020 school year at our next Association meeting on April 11 at 7:30am in the staff lounge. If you know of anyone who you think would be great to serve on the board next year, please nominate them! You can also nominate yourself if you’d like!

We are looking for a variety of positions to serve on the board. If you’re interested in finding out more about the different positions and their responsibilities, visit the CA PTA website or email ptaboard@vinciparkpta.com.

As the year is coming to a close, I want to say that it has been such a fun experience serving as your PTA President these past 2 years! I look forward to serving our school in different capacities in the years to come.

Warm Regards,
Barb Dionicio
PTA President

Principal’s Message

Dear Vinci Park Families,

March already! Wow, the second trimester has ended and you should have received your child’s report card. Hopefully you have an opportunity to review it with your child, to set goals for the third trimester and to celebrate the successes. Students certainly are doing some spectacular pieces of work. If you have questions or concerns, be sure to contact the teacher.

A big thank you to those of you who have been supporting all of our PTA sponsored events and buying your Berryessa Education Foundation raffle tickets. As many of you know we are getting started to go through the SBAC tests with our 3rd – 5th graders. Here are some of the resources on Common Core please review the following sites. Students grades 3-5 will be participating in the Smarter Balanced Test.

With the arrival of spring, many families use the Vinci Park campus for after school and weekend events.  Please show respect and pride for our community school by the following actions:

  • Take all trash home and help others to do the same.
  • Supervise your children and remind others to do the same.
  • Keep dogs off the campus at all times.
  • Address anyone engaging in vandalism and report it to the school office or the police.

As the warm weather approaches, I want to remind parents and students of our Vinci Park Dress Code. A couple of items to note are “no tank tops,” wear fingertip length shorts and skirts and to wear shoes with a back.

Have a great month!

Warmest Regards,
Parisa Nunez

February 2019 Newsletter

President’s Message

Hello Vinci Park Families,

Barb's headshot photoI hope you are enjoying all the rain we are getting this winter! Despite the rain, the PTA has been busy busy busy with so many events that enrich our school and community.

We recently completed our big fundraiser of the year called the HeroFit Challenge and the kids had so much fun having dance parties with Just-Incredible every morning, having team (classroom) huddles where they learned about the 5 character building traits such as teamwork, growth mindset and zest and finally the big event, the HeroFit Challenge where they came together and completed 35 exercises. It was so much fun seeing them dance, laugh and have fun while getting exercise in!

I want to send out a huge thank you to all our parents, families, and friends who pledged and donated towards the Hero Fit Challenge. Because of your hard work getting pledges and everyone’s generosity, we surpassed our initial goal of $15,000 and raised a total of $21,859.00! Vinci Park PTA will use this money to upgrade playground equipment, increase classroom funds and purchase much needed school supplies for our school.

This is proof that when we come together as a community and work towards a common goal, amazing things can happen.

I also want to thank our generous sponsors who contributed to purchasing a Boosterthon Hero Fit Challenge t-shirt for every single student at Vinci Park. Thank you to: Packet6, Sunshine School and Mainstream Electric Inc. for your tremendous contribution to our fundraiser and enhancing the event to make it even better.

Lastly, thank you to our teachers and administrative staff who without them this would not have been possible. Your dedication and commitment to enriching the lives of our students is admirable and we are so incredibly lucky to have you!

We have much to celebrate so I would like to personally invite all of you to our next community event which will take place on Thursday, March 7th from 6:00-8:00pm. Vinci Park PTA will be hosting a Pasta Night with music, board games and a chance to meet and mingle with other Vinci families and staff. Students and staff are FREE and the cost for everyone else is only $3.00 for a delicious pasta dinner. Please watch out for a flyer that will be coming home with your students the week of February 25th. We sincerely hope to see you all there so we can celebrate all our accomplishments together.

Reflecting back on the year, I realize that we have so much to be grateful for. The community we are building here at Vinci is supportive, encouraging and full of team camaraderie.

I hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable President’s Week break. We all deserve it!

Warm Regards,
Barb Dionicio
PTA President

He came up with the idea of having his students give each other “high fives” because they are a simple way to connect with someone. “It’s hard to tell what people are going through and sometimes they just need one person to give them a simple gesture that lets them know they are part of the team or community,” Mr. Torrez explains. High fives have been a success in his classroom all year and he wanted to take it to the next level and brought his idea to the Student Council. The Student Council officers and reps agreed it was a good idea and now wants to challenge all students and staff to find five people to give a high five to every Friday and watch the smiles that it brings. Let’s hope it catches on and becomes Vinci Park’s way of coming together and showing each other that we are one team.

Earth Shakes Fundraiser
The Vinci Park Safety Committee’s fundraiser has begun and runs to March 4th with a local online company called Earth Shakes. Earth Shakes provides a full line of earthquake survival kits and emergency supplies for disaster preparedness. Equip your home and cars with an emergency kit and make sure your friends, family, co-workers do as well. A flyer was sent home last week with more information. Samples of these kits are available in the front office for families to take a closer look of the products. A portion of the proceeds will go towards upgrading and adding to Vinci Park’s emergency supplies. Orders will be delivered the week of March 18th.

HeroFit Challenge
We had a lively and interactive fundraising experience the last two weeks in January with our HeroFit Challenge thanks to Just-Incredible and his Boosterthon team. Our students got a chance to solve mysteries, work on character building and got super-inspired to participate in raising money for our school. Let’s always remember the 5 character traits that we learned: 1) citizenship, 2) zest, 3) growth mindset, 4) integrity, and 5) teamwork! Together our Explorers raised over $21,000 for much needed playground equipment, increased classroom funds and school supplies. As promised Principal Nunez agreed to get slimed if our $15,000 goal was met. Here are a few snapshots from our fun filled weeks with the HeroFit Challenge.

January 2019 Newsletter

President’s Message

Hello Vinci Park Families,

Barb's headshot photoHAPPY NEW YEAR!

I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing break enjoying precious quality time with loved ones.

We are so excited to kick the new year off with a health and wellness themed fundraiser called the HERO FIT CHALLENGE. We are partnering with Boosterthon to help us create a fun and fitness related event while raising funds for our school! To kick off this fundraiser on January 22nd, the folks at Boosterthon will hold a pep rally in the morning for the kids in the multi purpose room. During this time, they will learn about the challenge as well as how they can help their school earn money. Your kids will bring home a pledge book with instructions. The actual HERO FIT CHALLENGE event will take place on January 31st and you are welcome to attend and cheer your kids on. Stay tuned for more information with more details of this event.

We have a goal of raising $15,000 and proceeds of this two-week fundraiser will go towards increased classroom funds, new playground equipment and much needed school supplies.

I would like to take this time to thank our three sponsors who have donated to Vinci Park PTA so that every student and staff member at the school will receive a Hero Fit Challenge t-shirt!  Thank you to: Packet 6, Sunshine School and Mainstream Electric Inc., for your tremendous generosity!

Please reach out to us at ptaboard@vinciparkpta.com  if you have any questions about the fundraiser.

On behalf of the PTA, we would like to express our gratitude to all of you who read our newsletters/flyers/posters, attend our PTA meetings, sign up to volunteer, show your support by attending our events or simply saying hi to us in the school yard. Your participation and support means the world to us and to show our appreciation, we are holding another Pastries with Parents event on February 5th from 7:30-8:00 am in the multi-purpose room. This is a free event and an opportunity for you to have breakfast with your child(ren) before they head off to class while getting to know other parents and educators in our community.

We hope to see you there!

Warm Regards,
Barb Dionicio
PTA President

Principal’s Message

Dear Vinci Park Families,

It is so hard to believe that winter break is over and 2019 is upon us! This school year is going by so quickly and Spring Break will be here before we know it. We are excited for a new year and the sense of excitement and renewal brought with it. Once again, we are so grateful for all the students, parents, and staff that bring joy to us on a daily basis. We truly hope that everyone had a safe and relaxing winter vacation!

January is a great time to reflect on the areas in our live where we felt successful during the past year. It is also a time to consider how to make changes in areas where we would like to improve. One of the focus areas at Vinci Park is reading. So we encourage all of our families to read, read, read – success in school depends, in large part, on a student’s ability to read and understand what they have read. Students should read a variety of books, including folktales, poetry, biographies, fiction, and more. Read to get information, read for fun, read to someone in your family…just read!  Our SSC members met in November and reviewed and approved our school plan (SPSA) and the plan was approved by the Berryessa Union School Board in December 2018. Vinci Park’s SARC (School Accountability Report Card) was also published this week, you can find both of these documents online. We also have hard copies available in the office if you would like a hardcopy.

We have so many wonderful and exciting events coming up a Vinci Pak, please take the time to participate and support our students, staff and parents.

Best,
Parisa Nunez
Principal

December 2018 Newsletter

President’s Message

Dear Vinci Park Families,

Barb's headshot photoI hope you are all enjoying the holiday season and all the joy, festivities and gatherings it brings!

Vinci Park has been busy celebrating with various classroom events, staff parties and the PTA even hosted a holiday pajama party that I hope you were able to attend! Santa Claus was the highlight of our evening as he took pictures with kids, asked them what they wanted for Christmas and even played duck duck goose with them! It is so fun to see the kids faces light up with excitement! Proceeds from our concessions from the Holiday Pajama Party will go towards classroom supplies, field trips, olympics and more! I met so many new families at this event and I hope to meet more of you in the coming months.

A huge THANK YOU to all our volunteers who made that event happen. I can’t stress enough the fact that these amazing events cannot happen without the hard work of parents and staff selflessly volunteering their time. If you haven’t had a chance to volunteer at one of our events yet this year, there will be plenty of opportunity in the new year.

There are SO MANY WAYS to get involved at Vinci Park. Whether you want to just get your feet wet and serve on a committee, or take on a large event, the PTA is always looking for volunteers! From my own personal experience, it is a remarkable feeling to see the joy and excitement in children’s faces as they participate in and benefit from the programs that the PTA is able to support.

If you want to learn more about ways to help, or have any questions or ideas you’d like to share, please feel free to reach out to me at president@vincipakpta.com.

I am excited to work with all of you to continue to help support our school!

On behalf of the PTA Executive Board, we wish you a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones and a prosperous and healthy new year!

Warm Regards,
Barb Dionicio
PTA President

Principal’s Message

Dear Vinci Park Parents & Families,

As the start of winter fast approaches, the days left in the first half of the school calendar are disappearing quickly. Student attendance on a regular basis is essential throughout the year for children to maximize their learning, but especially in the second half of the school year. Please be sure to help get your children to school regularly and on time. If they are sick, etc., we certainly understand. We want the best for your children and strongly believe that they gain the most from being at school on a consistent (if not daily) basis. Thank you for your help and support in this regard.

Our students and staff have accomplished a lot during our first almost 100 days of school. Our leader teachers and coaches have led professional development to help our teachers dive deeper into the Common Core State Standards. Common Core Standards are designed to help students at each stage of their academic careers, preparing them for future success in college and the workplace. The standards help teachers build the best lessons and help students set goals for success. Our professional development focused on how to help teachers build an environment where students can effectively engage in a wide range of rigorous, content-rich conversation and collaboration. At Vinci Park we are using Common Core, small group instruction and SEAL to continue to hold high expectations for the academic skills and knowledge your children need to be successful. If you are interested to learn more about common core, www.corestandards.org offers detailed information. On behalf of the entire school faculty and staff, I wish you and your entire family peace, joy, and happiness and excellent health.

Sincerely,
Parisa Nunez
Principal

Hero Fit Challenge Fundraiser with Boosterthon
Date: January 31, 2018
Time: 8:15am-11:15am
Location: Multi-Purpose Room

Parents! One of this year’s main fundraiser is the HeroFit Challenge! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on January 22nd. Families will then gather pledges for every exercise set, or Fitness Challenge your student completes (30-35 exercises), and we’ll celebrate at the HeroFit Challenge on January 31st. With our big goal of raising $15,000  for playground equipment, increased classroom funds, and supplies for the school, we asked the fitness and fundraising experts at Boosterthon to power our event and make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.

Students will also experience an amazing character theme, MINDSPARK MYSTERY LAB! Boosterthon’s most exciting theme yet combines S.T.E.A.M skills (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) with character-building. While they’re teaming up with the MindSpark Kids to solve mysteries, our students will learn five 21st-century character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.

Donations will go toward fundraising items and to the entire two-week experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the HeroFit Challenge! Thank you for your support!

November 2018 Newsletter

President’s Message

Dear Vinci Park Families,

Barb's headshot photoI want to take this time to express my gratitude and appreciation to all the parents, teachers and staff who has volunteered their time to help out at our events over the past few months. From getting pied in the face at our Harvest Festival, working the ticket booth, to cutting box tops at home or organizing and distributing our Otis Spunkmeyer orders, it was so amazing to see our school community come together! As a result, we have had some amazing fundraisers and community events. And, it’s only November!

I am so proud to announce that our Otis Spunkmeyer fundraiser this year was a HUGE success! We brought in a total of $30,301.00 in sales and 40% of those sales will go back Vinci Park PTA. That’s $12,560.40 that will help fund classroom supplies and field trips! Major kudos goes out to the PTA board for executing this fundraiser. A lot of work goes into planning and executing a school fundraiser such as this and it could not have gone any smoother so thank you to all those involved!

Our Harvest Festival this year was also a huge success. It was so well organized, and with the amount of volunteers we had, everyone was able to enjoy the festivities. The kids were dazzled by our magician Spencer Grey and they had a blast throwing a pie at their teachers!

Our next free community event is our Holiday Pajama Party on December 7th from 5:30-7:30pm. Check out the poster outside your child’s classroom and watch out for a flyer that will be coming home with your child in the next couple of weeks. Make sure to come in your favorite, comfiest pajamas and be ready to meet and greet Santa Claus!

As we approach the holiday season, I want to wish everyone a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving holiday with their loved ones. May your Thanksgiving be filled with love and cheer!

Warm Regards,
Barb Dionicio
PTA President

Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

Happy November!
Hope you are enjoying the beautiful brilliance of the fall season. As we approach the month of November, I would like to mention a few upcoming events. Parent-Teacher Conferences will begin November 26. You will have an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and the contents of the report with his or her teacher/s. Please use these conferences to your advantage. Be sure to come with questions, concerns or compliments. Use the time to discuss things you are unsure about or hope for your child. Pay attention to the comments your child’s teacher has, and help us make this a successful year for everyone.

If you have questions about content standards or state testing, a good site to visit is the

California Department of Education (www.cde.ca.gov).

Safety
I am asking that parents/guardians please use the horseshoe ONLY for drop and go purposes when bringing your student to school in the morning. If you feel the need to assist your child out of the car or walk them in, YOU MUST park on the street. I ask that you are respectful to parents who are on their way to work and on a time schedule. It creates a dangerous situation when cars try to go around those who have gotten out of their vehicles.

If you are bringing your child in late to school, you MUST bring them into the office and get a late pass. Please DO NOT drop them off and watch them enter the classroom from your car. Let’s all work to keep our most precious gift, our students, safe!

Finally, I would like to continue to invite parents to attend our School Site Council and PTA meetings.  During our November meeting we’ll be revising/aligning our school’s mission and vision statements.

Respectfully,
Parisa Nunez
Principal

Yearbook
We are in need of volunteers to work on our yearbook. This is an ongoing project that can be done online at home. If you are interested, please contact ptaboard@vinciparkpta.com.

Otis Spunkmeyer Fundraiser
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Fall fundraiser with Otis Spunkmeyer and Popcornopolis popcorn. We brought in a total of $30,301.00 in sales and 40% of those sales will go back Vinci Park PTA. That’s $12,560.40 that will help fund classroom supplies and field trips! Congratulations to both Ms. Angarano’s Kindergarten class for being the overall top class to sell 176 items combined and to our overall top seller, second grader, Darius Calanche who sold 79 items.

Pumpkin Design Contest at the Harvest Festival
During our Fall Harvest Festival last month we had a student pumpkin design contest with 20 contestants participating. The pumpkins were either carved, painted or decorated. There were many Halloween themed pumpkins with carvings of a witch, a bat, a cat, and  jack-o-lantern faces. While others were decorated and painted designs of a spider, a mummy and of funny faces. Congratulations to all of the participants. Everyone did a wonderful job with their creations and it was an entertaining sight to see.

Our
first place pumpkin was designed by 3rd grader Ace Tran. His pumpkin had a Frankenstein theme and was both carved, painted and decorated.

Our
second place pumpkin had a pink ribbon theme symbolizing breast cancer awareness. It was painted and decorated by 1st grader Renae Gomez.

Box Tops
We are pleased to announce the results and winners of the Box Tops for Education contest!

Classroom winner for TK-3rd: Mr. Torrez’s 3rd grade class with 311 Box Tops submitted.

Classroom winner for 4th-5th: Mrs. Stone’s 4th grade class with 220 Box Tops submitted.

Overall our students collected and submitted 3147 Box Tops last month, earning $314.70 for our school. Many thanks to everyone who participated! Keep collecting those Box Tops. The next submission will be later in the school year.

Vinci Blue Fridays
Every first Friday of the month each class competes to see who has the most spirit, aka “Vinci Blue Fridays”.  Congratulations to Mr. Torrez’s 3rd grade class and Ms. Perla’s 4th grade class for winning November’s Vinci Blue Friday. Our next Vinci Blue Friday will be December 7th. The winning classes will earn a small prize. Explorers, show your school spirit by wearing blue or a Vinci Park t-shirt or hoodie.

Walking Field Trip
Last week, a permission form for a “Walking Field Trip” for November 26th-November 30th, 2018 was handed out. In the event of an emergency during recess or when it is necessary to evacuate further than the boundaries of the campus, designated “Emergency Evacuation Sites” have been planned for the children to go to with their class. The permission form allows for the school to practice walking to these designated sites. Due to the safety of the children, these designated sites are kept confidential, but are nearby.

October 2018 Newsletter

President’s Message

Barb's headshot photoDear Vinci Park Families,

Can you believe that we are already in the 7th week of the school year?

I am excited to serve as your PTA President again and one of my goals for us this year is to increase engagement with parents, teachers/staff and the overall Vinci Park community.

One of the ways we will be doing that is by providing opportunities where we can meet other parents, teachers and staff. The first parent engagement event the PTA will be hosting is Pastries with Parents on Wednesday, October 3rd from 7:30-8:00 am in the multi-purpose room. Please join us and enjoy breakfast with your child before they head off to class while getting to know other parents and staff at Vinci Park. I hope I get to meet you at this FREE event hosted by the PTA!

The second way we will increase engagement this year is through a survey we will be sending out to all PTA members. Your opinion matters and as a PTA member your feedback and input will guide the decisions made by the PTA executive board. If you are not a PTA member yet, you can always join by completing this membership form and attaching your $10 donation.

Lastly, I want to encourage you to reach out to me if you have any suggestions, questions or concerns you would like to raise with the PTA. Please email me at president@vinciparkpta.com. My (virtual) office is always available to you!

Our number one goal as a Parent Teacher Association is to advocate for each and every child at Vinci Park and to create an environment that will enrich the lives of our children. I am proud and honored to serve as your PTA President for a second year.

Warm Regards,
Barb Dionicio
PTA President

Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that we have already been in school for 7 weeks! Our students have come in ready to learn and we have settled into the daily routines.

Please remember that you play a vital role in your child’s success at school.  You can help by asking your child about his/her day, having a positive attitude about learning, and reading to or with your child every night.  You would be amazed what 20 minutes of reading with your child each night will do her his/her language development and reading skills. Thank you for all your support at home!

The accomplishments of Vinci Park Elementary School would not be possible without the tremendous support of our wonderful stakeholders. We reassure your partnership and know our success depends on teamwork. As always, we welcome your time and talents and look forward to a fantastic year!

PTA Membership

What is PTA?
PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association and is a school-based organization with a mission to make the school a better place for our children to learn. Parents and students work together with teachers to volunteer in classes, raise money for school supplies, assemblies, field trips and more.

Who can be a member?
Parents, teachers, grandparents and relatives who want to help.

Why should you become a member?

  1. Joining PTA is a great way to support your school.
  2. PTA membership shows your children that you care about their education.
  3. Your membership helps support valuable enrichment programs that your school otherwise could not afford.
  4. You share in campus events and experiences that make your child’s school days more memorable!
  5. You join with other parents to discuss key issues and concerns of importance to your school and community.
  6. You proudly affiliate with the California State and National PTA, the oldest, largest, and most powerful children’s advocacy organization in the country.

If you would like to become a member, complete a form located at the sign-in desk outside the front office, attach your $10 contribution and submit it to your child’s teacher or front office staff. *A PTA membership does not require you to volunteer.

Volunteers
Volunteer opportunities range in a variety of things like creating our yearbook, selling food & spirit wear, setting up & coordinating events, calling vendors, creating flyers and more. Some volunteer opportunities are brief as 1-2 hours and others can be completed at home. Volunteers always are needed both during the day and evening hours. Volunteer forms are located at the sign-in desk outside the front office and online: https://vinciparkpta.com/volunteer/

We are currently seeking volunteers for our Fall Harvest Festival, Movie Nights and during our distribution day for our Otis Spunkmeyer fundraiser. We are also looking for photographers to take pictures at our events and graphic design artists to create flyers. If you have a special skill or talent that you would like to share, please contact us at ptaboard@vinciparkpta.com.

We are asking for every family to volunteer for at least one event. If we don’t have enough volunteers to help at the events, the event won’t happen.

Spirit Wear
Spirit wear will be sold on the last Thursday of every month between 7:45am-8:15am in front of room 14 (weather permitting). Our next sale is Thursday, October 25th. T-Shirts are $10 and hoodies are $20. Both children and adult sizes are available. We accept cash and checks made out to Vinci Park PTA. Spirit wear can also be purchased by completing a spirit wear order form in the office with your payment enclosed in an envelope. You will receive your order through your child’s teacher.

Otis Spunkmeyer Fundraiser
We are in middle of our Otis Spunkmeyer cookie dough and Popcornopolis popcorn fundraiser. Brochures went home on September 25th. Please share them with family, friends and co-workers. Additional order forms can be found in the office. The due date to turn in order forms and money is October 9th. Please make sure checks are made payable to Vinci Park PTA.

Click here for the online Otis Spunkmeyer and Popcornopolis brochures.

Our kids are excited about the different prize levels they can achieve. The highest prize, a digital video camera, can be achieved by selling just 55 items.

Vinci Blue Fridays
Every first Friday of the month each class will compete to see how many of its students can wear a Vinci Park t-shirt/hoodie or any blue clothing. The PTA will sponsor a prize to the winning class of the lower grades, TK-3rd, and the upper grades, 4th-5th grades. Congratulations to Mr. Torrez’s 3rd grade class and Ms. Perla’s 4th grade class who both had 21 of their students dress in Vinci Blue on September 7th. Our next Vinci Blue Friday will be October 5th.

Running Club
Vinci Park’s Running Club is every Monday and Wednesday morning from 7:20am-7:50am. Any student TK-5th can join after a signed permission slip is submitted to your teacher. The Running Club started on 10/1 and had a great turn out on it’s first day. Permission slips can be found at the sign-in desk outside the front office.

School Site Council Members for the 2018-2019 School Year
Congratulations to Laura Torrez, Barb Dionicio, MaryGrace Tobias and Derrick Thompson who are the new elected members to Vinci Park’s School Site Council. The purpose of the School Site Council is to insure community participation in educational decision making.

International Walk to School Day
This year, all of the Berryessa Union School District schools are joining thousands of schools and communities worldwide on Oct. 10th for International Walk to School Day. Leave your car at home and walk to school. This event began in 1997 and over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record breaking participation – each October.

Giving Tree
Our giving tree provides an opportunity to assist the PTA in purchasing the necessary items for our many events and programs. Items such as copy paper (white & color), card stock, paper plates, eating/serving utensils, napkins, garbage bags and more are used often and add to our expenses. Please consider taking a tag from our tree which is located in the front office. You many return the purchased item from your tag to the office. If you would like to help out, but are not at school often, email ptaboard@vinciparkpta.com and we can email you information about wishes that have not been selected yet or you can make a monetary donation.

Box Tops
You have probably seen BOX TOPS on products you buy every day. DON’T THROW THESE AWAY. Vinci Park can turn these in and earn money for our school to use toward field trips, community events, and teacher support! It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.

  1. Buy participating products with BOX TOPS on the package.
  2. Cut out the box tops along the dotted lines.
  3. Turn in the BOX TOPS to your teacher in a small baggie.

For a list of participating products in the Box Top Program click here.

Turn in the first round of Box Tops to your teacher by 10/19/2018.

BUT—don’t stop collecting! The next submission will be later in the year.

Instagram & Facebook
We created our first account on Instagram to help expand our communications. Find us under “vinciparkpta”. We will continue to post simultaneously on Facebook as well at “Vinci Park PTA”. It’s a great way to receive our announcements.

April 2018 Newsletter

President’s Message

Barb's headshot photoHello Vinci Park Families,

Can you believe we are already in the middle of April and preparing for the end of the school year? It’s been such a busy and fun year and it has been a pleasure serving on the PTA board and getting to know other parents and staff at Vinci Park Elementary!

With just a little under two months left, the PTA is excited to end the year with two wonderful events: Pasta Night on April 26th and Family Fun Night on May 18th. Please see the events section of the newsletter for more information on these two events. A flyer will also be sent home with your child so please watch out for those.  As always, we would love to have volunteers to help us make these events a success. Please sign up to volunteer on the Vinci Park PTA website or send an email at coordinator@vinciparkpta.com.

Did your kids come home talking about rockets and robots last week? If so, it’s because they attended an awesome assembly hosted by the PTA called Rockets & Robots by Captain Bob. There were so many oohs and ahhs and the kids were really engaged and super excited! Through fundraising, we hope to be able to bring more assemblies like this to Vinci Park in the coming years.

Teacher and staff appreciation week is May 7-11. Please look for a sheet that will be coming home with your kids soon and help us make everyday that week extra special for our teachers and staff who work so hard for our kids!

Thank You!

Barb Dionicio
PTA President

Principal’s Message

Dear Vinci Park Families,

April already! Wow, the second trimester has ended and you should have received your child’s report card. Hopefully you had an opportunity to review it with your child, to set goals for the third trimester and to celebrate the successes. Students certainly are doing some spectacular pieces of work. If you have questions or concerns, be sure to contact the teacher.

Here are some of the resources on Common Core please review the following sites. Students grades 3-5 will be participating in the Smarter Balanced Test.

www.cde.ca.gov
www.pta.org/4446.htm
http://www.cgcs.org/Domain/36
www.smarterbalanced.org

With the arrival of spring, many non Vinci Park children and families use the Vinci Park campus for after school and weekend events.  Please show respect and pride for our community school by the following actions:

  • Take all trash home and help others to do the same.
  • Supervise your children and remind others to do the same.
  • Keep dogs off the campus at all times.
  • Address anyone engaging in vandalism and report it to the school office or the police.

Reminders

All volunteers and visitors are required to sign in at the office and wear a name badge. Please don’t knock on classroom doors after the school day has started. This are for your safety and the safety of our students. Sign-in is part of our school and district safety plans. Arrangements for the pick-up of students at the end of the day should be made before school. Instructional time is being interrupted regularly when parents call the office and ask the teacher to give a message to the student. Let’s protect the learning time by reducing calls to the classroom.

Have a great month!

President’s Message

Barb's headshot photoHello Vinci Park Families!

As we are nearing the end of the school year, we are currently looking for a nominating committee to look for enthusiastic parents who would like to join the board next year. The purpose of the nominating committee is to recognize and seek qualified nominees for the elected leadership of the PTA. Elections will take place in April. If you are interested in joining the nominating committee, would like to nominate a candidate or nominate yourself, please send an email to Laura Torrez at secretary@vinciparkpta.com. CLICK HERE to see the list of positions and their descriptions that we are seeking to fill for the 2018-2019 school year.

Do you know anyone who can provide services to us for our Family Fun Night? We are looking for: Food Vendors, businesses willing to donate raffle prizes, face painters, balloon makers, magicians, or anything else you can think of that the kids will enjoy! Please email: ffncommittee@vinciparkpta.com with your recommendation and the contact information so we can reach out to them.

We had such an awesome turnout at our movie night this past Friday! So many families showed up to watch Disney’s hit, “Coco” and we sold pizza, nachos and cheese, cookies and drinks and we gave away popcorn and ice cream for FREE! The kids had a blast and so did the adults. Thank you to everyone who came and a special thank you to the volunteers who helped make it a smooth and successful event!

Thank you so much to the teachers and staff for such a fun book fair ice cream social! Just look how happy these kids are to get their ice cream, hang out with their buddies and purchase some new books!

Lastly, Mrs. Nunez and I attended the annual CA PTA Luncheon earlier this month and we had the opportunity to meet other PTA leaders, educators and community leaders in the Bay Area. We heard from CA State PTA President, Dianna MacDonald as she reinforced the impact parents, teachers and the community have on our students. It was a great reminder that together, we can make a huge difference in children’s lives.

Mrs. Nunez and I with Berryessa Unified School District Superintendent, Dr. Roxane Fuentes.

Principal’s Message

Dear Vinci Park  School Families,

This year is flying by!  What a wonderful group of students we have at Vinci Park School.  They continue to work hard, play positively and grow socially.  We will soon be entering a period of multiple assessments, if you would like to see some sample questions and have your students practice some of the released test questions, please visit, https://sbacpt.tds.airast.org/student.

The most important skill your 3rd-5th grade students should be working on right now is their typing skills, there are some excellent websites you can use, if you need some assistance finding one please ask your student’s teacher.

March 21 – 28 will be conference days for all students. Teachers will discuss your child’s progress, areas of strength and weakness, the report card, and they will share samples of your student’s work with you.  Please bring any questions that you may have about how your child is doing.

Students will be dismissed at 1:00 during the conference days.

As the warm weather approaches, I want to remind parents and students of our Vinci Park Dress Code. A couple of items to note are “no tank tops,” wear fingertip length shorts and skirts and to wear shoes with a back and covered toes.

Have a great month!

Warmest Regards,
Parisa Nunez
Principal

Hello Vinci Park Families!

Spring is just around the corner and the weather these past couple of weeks have been perfect!

You may have noticed a few new signs around the drop off area. Please be cautious of children walking to and from school and crossing the street during drop offs and pickups. This is a reminder that when you are dropping off your kids at the turn area, please do not park! Parked cars block the flow of traffic and make it difficult for other cars to move forward and exit causing a back-up. Your patience and cooperation is for the safety of our kids!

We had a great brainstorming meeting for our Family Fun Night Event! We came up with lots of new ideas to make this year even more memorable. The theme this year is Multicultural and we will be celebrating cultures from all around the world. The committees have been formed: food & drinks, activities, games, entertainment and raffle baskets. We are seeking volunteers to help us make this event a success. If you would like to help, sign up to volunteer by completing this form or reaching out to Dulce Valencia, our Volunteer Coordinator at coordinator@vinciparkpta.com.

It’s not too late to purchase your emergency kits through EarthShakes. The deadline to purchase is February 16. 20% of sales will go back to Vinci Park Elementary to be used to purchase much needed emergency supplies for the school. For more information, go to the Earthshakes Website: https://earthshakes.com
